Wheelshare is an app that allows residents to easily share vehicles, such as cars, trailers and cargo bikes. The aim is to reduce CO2 emissions, make cities more liveable and make car ownership less necessary.

During Into the Great Wide Open 2024, Wheelshare investigated which barriers people experience when sharing vehicles and how the app can remove them. The test has provided many valuable insights.

Users find taking out additional insurance an obstacle and are afraid of losing control of their car. Nevertheless, they are willing to share vehicles, especially with neighbors they already know. Many participants had not yet considered other vehicles, such as cargo bikes.

Wheelshare is working on integrating insurance into the app to simplify the process. In addition, a pilot will be conducted in a specific neighborhood and an ambassador program will be set up to promote the idea locally. The matching function of the app is being further developed to connect residents more easily.
