Expotherm is developing insulating covers for cooking pots and lids that reduce heat loss by 50%, shorten heating time by 20%, and keep the exterior cool. The covers can be used both during cooking and to keep food at the desired temperature afterward. During Into The Great Wide Open, prototypes were tested through demonstrations and interviews.
The covers proved user-friendly and generated valuable feedback and business connections. Consumers recognized the issue of high energy consumption during cooking and particularly appreciated the product’s sustainability, safety, and energy efficiency. Caterers and food trucks expressed interest in testing the covers in practice. Campers also saw potential, as the covers can be used in locations with limited energy supply.
Next steps include further development of professional prototypes, pilot testing with restaurants and caterers, and additional market research into niche markets. Work is also underway on a marketing strategy targeting both B2B and B2C audiences.
