Good team dynamics don’t usually happen by themselves. Many youth coaches lack the tools to effectively guide behaviour, group dynamics and motivation. Teamscan is a digital observation tool that helps make what is happening within a team visible through four themes: Physical, Relationships, Focus and Structure. This gives coaches a shared language to talk about team behaviour, reflect more consciously on their coaching and adjust their approach where needed.
During the Hockey World Cup, Teamscan tested the digital tool with coaches and other people involved in sports. Participants tried out the prototype and shared their experiences through interviews, a survey and a Trashcan vote.
The first reactions were positive. 15 out of 18 participants (83%) wanted to stay updated about Teamscan. Participants found the tool easy to use and saw the value of getting quick insights into team dynamics.
At the same time, some terms were not immediately clear to everyone. The FRIS terminology (fysiek, relatie, inhoud en structuur) and the ‘Physical’ aspect in particular needed more explanation. The intention to use the tool was also not yet convincing: of the eight respondents, two said they would definitely use Teamscan, four said maybe and two said no.
The next step is to refine the questions and terminology and test the digital version further. Teamscan will invite interested coaches to test the first MVP and explore what is needed to turn interest into actual use.
The first reactions are positive. Now it’s time to make Teamscan fit the reality of coaches even better.
