Into The Great Wide Open 2026

From 27 to 30 August, we’re back on Vlieland. During Into The Great Wide Open, the island once again becomes a place where art, nature, music and innovation come together. A place where you don’t just watch and listen, but actively help shape change.

Since 2016, no fewer than 46 innovations have had their first real-world test on the island. In this vibrant and engaged festival environment, innovators put their ideas into practice: direct, unfiltered and real. What works? What needs improvement? And what insights help take the next step?

This year, three innovators have been selected to test solutions ranging from social innovation to sustainability and equal opportunities. Curious to find out who they are? Read on.

Meldcode spel
Make conversations about domestic violence easier to start

Talking to someone when you suspect domestic violence isn’t easy. Yet these conversations can make all the difference. That’s why the Meldcode spel was developed: a 3D simulation tool that uses AI to help professionals practise realistic conversations in a safe environment.

Behind every difficult conversation is a person. By giving professionals the opportunity to practise, the barrier to speaking up becomes smaller. This helps them recognise the signs of domestic violence earlier and take action sooner. For children, families and everyone involved, that can make the difference between getting help too late or just in time.

What they’re testing during Into The Great Wide Open
The team is testing how realistic the AI conversations feel, the quality of the AI’s responses and feedback, the overall user experience, and how much participants learn from the exercise.

Expotherm
Cook faster, safer and more sustainably

Expotherm develops insulating covers for cooking pots and lids that heat a pan up 20% faster and keep it warm 50% longer, while the outside stays safe to touch. The result is significant energy savings and greater efficiency in the kitchen. The company currently has prototypes for 11-litre and 24-litre pans, including the pans, lids and insulating covers, and is looking to test them with caterers in real-life settings.

What they’re testing during Into The Great Wide Open
The team is testing how the insulating pan cover performs during everyday use, how much time and energy it saves, how caterers experience the innovation, and how it can contribute to the transition towards more sustainable catering. So there’s a good chance your hot festival meal will stay warm thanks to

RobinGood
Would you pay a little extra for equal opportunities?

Many laptops and other IT devices are replaced long before they reach the end of their useful life. RobinGood gives these devices a second life by repairing and refurbishing them, so they can be used for years to come. They are then donated to people for whom owning a reliable computer is far from guaranteed.

This reduces unnecessary waste while giving more people access to technology. What one company no longer needs can open up new opportunities for a child, student or job seeker.

What they’re testing during Into The Great Wide Open
RobinGood is exploring a new idea: are people willing to pay a little extra for a refurbished laptop or other device? That extra contribution helps make the same hardware more affordable for people with a smaller budget. In this way, one person’s small contribution helps someone else gain access to a reliable computer. The team is also exploring how festival visitors feel about this social pricing model.

Press & media

During Into The Great Wide Open, Innofest is showcasing three innovations that each contribute in their own way to a fairer and more sustainable world. From safer cooking solutions to creating more equal opportunities.

We hope these innovations receive the attention they deserve, both for what they do today and for the change they can help create in the future. Journalists and media partners are warmly invited to experience these innovations up close.

About Innofest

Innofest helps innovators test their prototypes at festivals and other real-life test locations. By validating their key assumptions early on, innovators increase their chances of success and gain valuable insights for investors and first customers.

Since its founding in 2016, Innofest has supported more than 350 test cases at festivals and living labs. We do this using our validated testing method, which we’ve made accessible in a practical whitepaper.
