Green & Inclusive events

DGTL, de Revolution Foundation, Oerol and Innofest are helping 7 companies, social projects, and students from across the Netherlands in setting up a testcase at DGTL and Oerol. We are testing innovations, initiatives, and art projects aimed at making the festival and creative sector more sustainable, inclusive, and diverse.

Inspirational Guide

Are you interested in discovering new possibilities for your event? Drawing insights from our trials at DGTL and Oerol, we are curating a comprehensive report designed to ignite inspiration and guide you in steering your event towards greater sustainability and inclusivity. We will publish this in the fall of 2024. Would you like to receive it? Place a free pre-order via this link.

How to create an inclusive event?

What is a safe space? How do you ensure that everyone can be themselves on the dance floor? In preparation for the tests, we interviewed various people from our community.

About Oerol

Oerol is an annual arts and theater festival held on the island of Terschelling. The festival is a unique blend of nature, culture, and artistic creativity. The island’s natural environment serves as a stage for special location performances. Oerol aims to achieve a 90% fossil-free production of the festival by 2024. Together with creators, scientists, the audience, and the island itself, the organization is working towards minimizing its impact as much as possible.

What are we testing at Oerol?

Semilla Sanitation

Everyone can now use urinals on the beach! That’s where the Peepal is located. This gender-neutral urinal from Semilla Sanitation collects urine, which is later converted into agricultural raw materials and plant food. Previously, Semilla Sanitation only used the contents of regular urinals, but thanks to the inclusive design of the Peepal, everyone can now use it.

PLAEX

With the Garby you no longer have to doubt whether a milk carton is paper waste or not. This smart waste bin sorts the collected waste itself. This can reduce residual waste by as much as 70% and reduce waste collection costs by 68%.

Stick with Chloe

For people with a (physical) disability, it is often unclear whether locations are sufficiently accessible, and this often also applies to festivals. That is why Chloé van Dalen investigates how festivals can become more accessible for people who have difficulty walking or use a wheelchair. Chloé is very curious about the opinions of other visitors about the accessibility of festivals and has therefore set up a survey. You can fill it in here!

Holy Swap! Point

Looking for festival gear, but would rather not buy anything new? Do you have items that you no longer use and would you like to make someone else happy? Come to the Holy Swap! Point. Here you exchange your items for tokens, which you can use to buy something new. During Oerol or at one of the other Holy Swap! events. Do you want something, but you’ve got nothing to swap? Then you can also purchase tokens.

Holy Swap! helps to minimize the impact of your consumption. It offers an alternative form of consumption that allows you to continue to experience the pleasure of new things, but with minimal impact on the planet and your wallet.

What: clothing, accessories, books, camping gear

Nieuws van de Bouw

Do you have a compliment, question or comment for the festival? Or would you like to stay informed of important updates as a local resident or visitor? Nieuws van de Bouw has the solution. They maintain a live blog where important updates are posted. In addition, there are posters with QR codes on the festival grounds, with which you use to send a message to the festival in complete privacy. Curious about the first updates that have already been posted? Follow the live blog here!

Skik Analytics

Startup Skik Analytics wants to make festivals and events safer and more accessible through smart use of data. They are developing an app that can recommend personalized routes to avoid long queues or for people with mobility problems.

During Oerol, Skik Analytics collaborates with the interactive map of Oerol, developed by Wolfmaps. By following the movements of festival goers, they collect valuable information for the further development of the app. Will you help?
