The climate is changing, with consequences such as flooding, drought and heat. The WeerBa(a)r is a wooden bar, in which festival visitors are made aware of the effects of climate change by letting them experience extreme weather conditions, such as heat and rain. This not only stimulates awareness, but also encourages visitors to come up with creative solutions for climate adaptation. The results of these conversations and experiences are shared with policy makers to have a broader influence on climate programs.
During the ITGWO 2024 festival, the effectiveness of the WeerBa(a)r was tested in increasing awareness and involvement in climate change, especially among young people. The visitors were interviewed, experienced climate extremes in a simulation house and participated in an idea session.
The test confirmed that the WeerBa(a)r increased awareness of climate change. Many young people shared creative ideas about how we can adapt to extreme weather conditions. The next step is to further analyze the collected data and further develop the WeerBa(a)r, with the aim of making an even greater impact at future festivals and adding new weather conditions to the experience.
