Veldboom Studios is developing a lightweight, energy-efficient microcar, fully 3D-printed and intended for use on bike paths. The design is compact, stylish, and personally customizable, offering an alternative to short car trips in urban areas. During Op de Ring, founder Shaquille Veldboom researched how the public reacts to this new form of mobility, using a woolmap and surveys.

The test showed that 60% of participants use a bicycle for trips under 15 km, and nearly half are willing to replace a regular car or scooter with a microcar. Approximately 60% expressed interest in a future test drive. However, the expected price was significantly lower (€5,000–€8,000) than the target price of €15,000–€20,000. Interest from the art world was notable: the Nemo Museum wants to exhibit the car. Its colorful appearance also attracted children. There were also practical insights: most people prefer to park on private property, and some 3D-printed parts were found to be not heat-resistant.

Based on these results, Veldboom Studios will refine the production model, improve parts, and lower production costs. Additionally, they will further research market capacity with test drives at the new office location and prepare for RDW approval. Through a new store in the Amsterdamse Poort, the team aims to introduce more people to the microcar, with space for both education and family visits.
