Cup Concept, VM Events, and Vriezon developed a cooling container that operates on solar panels and a built-in battery, allowing food and drinks to be refrigerated without an external power source. During Into The Great Wide Open, the prototype was tested over a weekend to determine whether the container could maintain a stable temperature of 4 to 5 degrees Celsius.

The container proved to be 96% self-sufficient, demonstrating that refrigeration at festivals can operate without diesel generators. This results in lower COâ‚‚ emissions, reduced noise pollution, and more sustainable and quieter events. The container attracted significant interest: festival organizers saw clear potential, VM Events plans to continue development, and the current container is already being rented out regularly.

The next step is to improve the battery and solar panels to achieve 100% self-sufficiency. In addition, VM Events, Cup Concept, and Vriezon are calculating production and rental costs to develop a viable business case. Once finalized, the solution will move toward market introduction and scaling up, enabling more festivals to adopt this sustainable cooling innovation.
