During the Hockey World Cup, RefConnect tested whether there is a need for the platform and whether its business model works. The test involved 10 participants who were either referees themselves or involved in finding referees for their club. For other visitors, RefConnect was less relevant.
The need was clear: all 10 participants recognised the problem and saw value in a solution. Clubs and teams were willing to pay an average of around €28 for a referee. Participants were also willing to pay a fee for using the platform itself.
The app was considered logical and easy to understand. Participants suggested new features, including a connection with federation data, team profiles and communication between clubs. These ideas will be included in further development.
The assumption that referees need more insight into team behaviour could not yet be properly tested, as relatively few referees took part in the interviews.
The next step is to further develop and market RefConnect. The team will also explore connections with the KNHB and KNVB, new pilots and a possible backup system for referees who cancel.
