Plastic Lab creates products from recycled plastic, such as wallets, rulers, and accessories. The production process can be carried out locally by students or social workplaces, contributing to both the circular economy and social inclusion. During the Wereldhavendagen, Plastic Lab explored how visitors perceive the products, the use of recycled materials, and their willingness to pay for sustainability.

Visitors appreciated the unique and circular nature of the products and found the colors appealing. However, many indicated that they did not need the products and would typically shop at stores like Action or Hema instead. As a result, willingness to pay was low. Sustainable shops, gift stores, and museum shops were mentioned as logical sales channels.

Next steps: test larger and more decorative products with higher value, run pilot projects in concept stores and museum shops, and improve product presentation through storytelling focused on “plastic as a valuable material.”
