During the Wereldhavendagen, research was conducted to understand how businesses, governments, and individuals view PFAS detection and their willingness to pay for reliable and safe solutions. Companies and water authorities particularly valued the potential for reduced remediation costs and the prevention of project delays. Individuals expressed interest in home testing kits for drinking water but were more hesitant about the price they would be willing to pay. In the event of an alarming PFAS result, 75% indicated they would contact the relevant authorities. Although there is general awareness of PFAS, knowledge about its risks and specific presence in products or the environment remains limited.
Next steps: the webshop currently under development will focus on drinkwater test kits as the most reliable consumer PFAS test available in the Netherlands. Additionally, more targeted promotion will be directed toward offering the soil testing package through industry associations and trade magazines for horticulturists, as well as through media channels in response to news coverage about PFAS.
