8 out of 10 students pay too much rent. The entrepreneurs at huurtehoog.nl help students lower their rent and reclaim overpaid rent. During Eurosonic Noorderslag, they gave free rent advice and tested their app. “Our ultimate goal is to launch the app so that students can measure their rooms themselves, with which we can make the rental market in the Netherlands a lot fairer,” says Ben Theuns of huurtehoog.nl. One of the testers revealed that it would be interesting to expand the concept to other tenants as well: “I think it’s a very good initiative. I myself live in a rental apartment and I have quite a lot of hassle with my landlord. I really think I pay way too much rent so it would be nice if huurtehoog could help me with that too.”
