After a festival, there are often mountains of camping gear left behind: tents, air mattresses, and sleeping bags that are perfectly suitable for a second life. Green Gear collects these materials and processes them into bags and accessories with a unique story. During TT Festival in Assen, they tested whether there is a market for these circular products, which designs are most appealing, and what visitors are willing to pay for them.
Visitors reacted enthusiastically to both the products and the sustainable concept behind them. The reuse of TT waste was experienced as original and valuable, and the idea that each bag is unique was appealing. Furthermore, the interest came from a broader target audience than initially expected. On average, visitors were willing to pay €10-€20 for a bag, a feasible price for the smaller models, but not for the larger ones. Suggestions for improvements included adding zippers, buttons, or extra compartments, which would make the bags more attractive and functional.
Based on these insights, Green Gear will continue collecting materials at other festivals, such as Wildeburg, and will develop a new collection with additional functionality. They are also looking into collaborations with festivals for material collection, aligning the cost price with the sewing workshop, and marketing the collection in Groningen.
