In the catering industry alone, 55.4 million kilos of food are wasted every year. Albird offers a solution with an app that is connected to smart sensors. In this way, they enable constant temperature control in refrigerators and freezers. During ESNS they tested these innovative sensors backstage at the crew catering.

Albert Duursma, the founder of Albird: “We learned a lot of new things and validated our assumptions.” This was not without challenges: It became clear that the hardware needs to be simplified. “Our system consisted of all kinds of cables and two separate devices, which was not easy to install. We have to make this a plug-and-play system.” Valuable insights were gained during interviews with end users. “People want sensors in the refrigerator to keep the temperature in order. Many people mentioned they want to receive notifications if the temperature is too high.” Albert will be working hard on all these insights in the near future. “We are going to make the app much more efficient and fun for catering entrepreneurs.”
