Active Esports Arena (AEA) by PWXR combines gaming with physical activity through what is known as exergaming. This is an innovative way to make sports more accessible and fun. During the World Cup Qualifying Tournament in Thialf, AEA tested how this concept motivates people to become more active and how user-friendly the system is.
The test in brief
Visitors played intensive and interactive games, after which they shared their exercise behavior, motivation and experiences through surveys. The results? The AEA was positively rated as an accessible, intensive and motivating way to encourage exercise. The social aspect proved to be an important driver of participation, and exergaming increased awareness of physical fitness. The younger target group, such as children and families, were especially enthusiastic participants. Still, reaching non-athletes remains an important focus.
What’s next?
With these insights, AEA will work to improve the business model, particularly by targeting specific age groups. It will also continue to develop system settings and optimization on a site-by-site basis. With these steps, AEA is betting on broader accessibility and continued incentive for movement. Thus, PWXR remains committed to making exercise through gaming attractive to a wide audience.
