Military Boekelo Enschede

October 10 and 11, 2025, we will be testing innovations during one of the largest outdoor sports events in the Netherlands: the Military Boekelo – Enschede.

With more than 60,000 visitors annually, thousands of sports enthusiasts from the Netherlands and abroad, and over 20,000 business guests, this top sports event offers a unique stage to showcase and test ideas in practice.

Why test here?
During the Military, a broad and diverse audience comes together: from sports fans and families to policymakers, entrepreneurs, and international guests. With a visitor rating of 8.4 and a reputation as the world’s best Military over the past ten years, the event provides a powerful setting to present innovations.

Business meets innovation
In addition to sports and major attractions, the Military is known as one of the largest business events in the Netherlands, with more than 100 sponsors and extensive hospitality. This makes the event an ideal place to test innovations in a business context: how do visitors respond, does the innovation work as intended, and what insights can be gained for scaling up?

Fitycal
Your personal fitness coach in your pocket
Avans University of Applied Sciences & Fitycal B.V.
Regular physical activity not only promotes a longer life, it also reduces the risk of disease. This smart app uses visual feedback in the form of a 3D scan to track physical progress and motivate users to achieve their fitness goals.

MeidenApp
Making exercise fun and social
Avans University of Applied Sciences & Neardoor.club
The mental health of teenage girls is deteriorating, partly due to academic pressure and increasing social isolation. At the same time, only 39% of young people get enough exercise, even though movement is crucial for mental well-being. The MeidenApp encourages girls aged 12 to 18 to be active together, combining sports with social interaction in an AI-supported app.

The Last Cup
A solution to the ‘last cup problem’
Avans University of Applied Sciences & Statieheld
The new deposit return system is reaching only 68% of the intended 90% collection rate, mainly due to the lack of a low-threshold return solution. Statieheld addresses this with on-the-go recycling machines and instant payouts via Tikkie. At events, the “last cup problem” arises: visitors trade cups for drinks but leave them behind at the end. Statieheld provides a practical solution with recycling machines and easy refunds via Tikkie.

Innovation in beweging
Augmented Reality in physiotherapy
Zuyd Hogeschool & Maastricht Instruments B.V.
As the population ages, the demand for healthcare continues to rise, while the number of healthcare workers is declining. This innovation uses Augmented Reality and interactive games to help patients practice independently, both in the clinic and at home. Progress can be monitored remotely, making therapy more efficient. By making exercises more engaging and fun, the innovation encourages more movement and improves adherence to therapy.

Unbox your calm selfie
Strengthening girls’ resilience through healthy emotion regulation
Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences – Research Group on Girls and Mental Well-being
Half of all girls aged 10 to 15 experience anxiety and depressive symptoms every week. Unbox your calm selfie provides them with evidence-based tools to regulate emotions in a healthy way. This helps girls cope better with stress, reduces rumination, and strengthens both their resilience and their social relationships.

Collaboration with Sportinnovator and Regieorgaan SIA

Four out of the five innovations being tested during the Military are part of a special program by Sportinnovator and Regieorgaan SIA. Through this program, universities of applied sciences and SMEs are given the opportunity to test the sustainability of sports and sports facilities in practice at festivals and sporting events. The goal: to get more people moving while making the sports sector more sustainable.

Unbox your calm selfie is, in addition, an independent SIA case that specifically focuses on healthy emotion regulation in girls.
